Family House
Gaia Family House: Residential stays for mothers and children
Gaia Family House is located in beautiful and historic surroundings on the outskirts of Silkeborg and offers a safe environment where mothers and children can find support, development, and well-being.
Services and support
Gaia Family House is located in Kjellerup, near Silkeborg and Viborg in Central Jutland. We provide temporary residential stays and family treatment for mothers and children who have experienced violence in close relationships, are in acute crisis, and/or come from a psychosocially burdened background with experiences of substance abuse, violence, mental illness, or neglect. We also admit expectant mothers during pregnancy.
To ensure the best possible support, any previous substance abuse must be discontinued, and there must be no active substance abuse during the stay. The intervention is tailored individually and may include trauma therapy, parenting guidance, health counselling, and practical support in everyday life, all based on the principles underlying Section 32 of the Danish Child Act and Section 107 of the Social Services Act.
Methods and professional approach
We work with narrative and response-based methods, Marte Meo, Signs of Safety, infant therapy, and Sandplay. Our interdisciplinary team consists of family therapists, educators, a psychologist, and a body therapist with expertise in trauma and attachment. The family treatment and mother-child residential support always focus on the child’s well-being and the needs of the family.
Facilities and community
The Family House contains four bright apartments with private kitchens and bathrooms, a shared living room, teaching room, gymnasium, training facilities, and outdoor areas with a multi-sport court, football field, and fire hut – all designed to support safety and development.
Legal framework
Gaia Family House is established under Section 32(1)(6) of the Danish Child Act and Section 107 of the Social Services Act.
