Collaboration for the best support
We value interdisciplinary collaboration and high professional standards to ensure that women exposed to violence receive the right support and safe transitions throughout their journey.
Women who have been exposed to violence can contact Gaia Crisis Centre 24 hours a day. They may reach out on their own, and public authorities (caseworkers, doctors, police, or hospital emergency departments) can also refer women to a crisis centre. The decision on admission to Gaia Crisis Centre is made by the centre manager in accordance with Section 109(3) of the Danish Social Services Act.
We believe that the best support for women is achieved through cooperation between the relevant services in each individual case. We therefore place strong emphasis on cross-sector collaboration and smooth transitions to ensure the necessary safety for women and any accompanying children.
With a high level of professionalism, we assess during intake whether a woman is eligible for a place and whether Gaia Crisis Centre can provide the support and safety she needs.
We ensure this partly by equipping our staff with strong expertise in the field of violence, and partly by maintaining a transparent procedure that ensures quality and consistency in admissions.
We are clear about our core task and we do what we say we do. There should be no doubt about our role or the responsibilities of others. Each of us should do what we are best at, and we therefore have great respect for the expertise of others and expect the same in return.
We are always available by phone and are happy to provide advice, guidance, and clarification if there is any doubt about whether a woman is in our target group or whether another service may be more appropriate.
If we do not have available places, we can also help by informing which crisis centres currently have vacancies.

Residential plans
At Gaia Crisis Centre, we work together with each woman to develop a flexible residential plan tailored to her individual situation. The plan is used as a practical tool to support the goals agreed upon with the woman throughout her stay.
Safety plans
During the stay, a safety plan is developed covering both physical and psychological safety. The plan helps the woman manage threats from the perpetrator and provides concrete strategies for action during and after her stay.
Network
We place great emphasis on the woman’s support network, which may include family, friends, or colleagues. For children, we help maintain contact with nurseries, schools, and friends to ensure continuity and stability.
Food and nutrition
We prioritise healthy meals as an important part of well-being and recovery. Food is included in the stay, and our kitchen staff ensure that everyone is offered nutritious and varied meals. Women are encouraged to take part in cooking and are also offered guidance and inspiration for healthy and budget-friendly meal preparation.
