Outpatient counselling

Free, anonymous counselling and support

Fra Frygt til Frihed (“From Fear to Freedom”) offers free, anonymous outpatient counselling for women who are living in or have left an abusive relationship. Receive support, clarity, and help to find your way towards a safer and more independent life – on your own terms.

The first step towards a life without violence is the decision

Each year, 118,000 women in Denmark are exposed to psychological and/or physical violence in their own homes. Intimate partner violence knows no boundaries – neither cultural nor social. It could be someone you know: a sister, neighbour, friend, colleague, or daughter. Violence is often hidden and surrounded by taboo, but your voice can make a difference. If you have a suspicion, speak up – your action may be crucial in helping a woman find the opportunity to break free.

‘From Fear to Freedom’ is a free and anonymous counselling programme for women who are or have been exposed to violence within the past year – whether psychological, physical, or of another nature. The programme is offered by Fonden Gaia with support from Østifterne and is aimed at women who want help but do not necessarily need to stay at a crisis centre.

You can receive up to five confidential sessions with qualified counsellors – therapists, psychologists, and social professionals specialising in violence. Sessions can take place in Danish or English, in person in a discreet location in central Aarhus, by phone, or online – depending on what suits you best. We help you find clarity in chaos and support you in making choices that align with your values and needs.

The counselling may also include couple or family therapy, if relevant to your situation. The aim is to support you where you are, and when you need it – so you can take steps towards a safe and free life.

Contact us for a confidential conversation so we can plan your next step together. The counselling phone is open on weekdays from 8am to 3pm. If we do not answer immediately, you are welcome to leave a message – we guarantee anonymity and will call you back the same day. You can also write to our secure email: levfrit@gaiakrisecenter.dk

If you are in immediate danger, remember: a stay at a crisis centre is always the safest option.
