When you are worried about someone you care about
How you, as a relative or close contact, can support a woman experiencing violence.
A close contact is someone who has a relationship with a woman exposed to violence. This may be a family member, but it can also be a partner, friend, neighbour, fellow student, or colleague.
If you know a woman who is experiencing violence, or you suspect that she might be, and you are unsure what to do, you are always welcome to contact us on our 24-hour helpline. Here you can receive advice and guidance from skilled and compassionate staff who can answer your questions and help you find the right way forward.
As a close contact, one of the most helpful things you can do is to be clear and name your concern. Talking about violence is often sensitive and can feel difficult. But in order to address violence, it is important that we speak about it and respond when we suspect something is wrong.
