Crisis centre in Aarhus
Women's crisis centre in the heart of Aarhus
In a historic and atmospheric building, we create a space for community, support, and safety for women who have experienced violence, along with their children.
A safe crisis centre in the heart of Aarhus
In our Aarhus facility, there is space for 17 women and their accompanying children. We are based in a beautiful building that used to be a missionary house, and the place therefore carries a unique sense of charm and spiritual atmosphere.
Services and support
Gaia Krisecenter is a crisis centre under Section 109 of the Danish Social Services Act, offering support to women who have experienced violence, along with their children if they have any. In three of our places, we are also able to accommodate women who are temporarily without housing and therefore fall under Section 110 of the Social Services Act. In these cases, women may also bring their children.
Facilities and community
All our rooms are furnished to feel like home, each with a private bathroom and toilet. The kitchen, which is the heart of the house, is run by a dedicated kitchen manager who prepares the meals. All residents take an active part in the kitchen, both in cooking and cleaning up, and this also applies to maintaining the shared spaces.
Our large communal dining hall brings everyone together—residents and staff alike—for three meals a day. The terrace connected to the kitchen offers a pleasant outdoor space for relaxation and social time, especially during the warmer months. The building spans four floors and includes rooms of different sizes, from small single rooms to larger family rooms that can accommodate three to four children, all arranged along several corridors. At the very top, there is a peaceful, undisturbed rooftop terrace with a small greenhouse.
Safety
Safety is supported by a video intercom system, ensuring that only known and authorized individuals can enter the building.
