Fonden Gaia is now a part of WAVE
Fonden Gaia is now a member of Women Against Violence Europe (WAVE) – a European network of more than 190 organisations and specialist services working to prevent and combat violence against women and children. The network brings together members from 46 European countries, creating opportunities to share knowledge, experiences and professional practices across borders.
For Gaia, membership is an important opportunity to become part of a broader professional community and to contribute our experience from working with women and children who have experienced violence.
A European community addressing violence against women and children
WAVE works with capacity building, research, advocacy and knowledge sharing. The network brings together organisations across Europe and works to ensure that women and children experiencing violence have access to specialised support, while also bringing knowledge and experience from practice into the development of European policy and legislation.
WAVE’s work also includes monitoring the availability and quality of specialised services across European countries. For example, the network’s Country Report 2025 brings together data on women’s shelters, counselling services, sexual violence centres and other specialised services across 46 European countries.
With Gaia’s membership, there are now five Danish organisations among WAVE’s members: LOKK, Danner, Center for Voldsforebyggelse, Joan-Søstrene and Fonden Gaia.
As a member, we have the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with organisations working under different national conditions, but facing many of the same professional challenges. This provides new perspectives on violence prevention, support for survivors and the development of specialised services.
For Gaia, it is equally important to contribute our own experience to this community. Our practice is grounded in our daily work with women and children, and we see great value in sharing experiences, learning from others and contributing to the development of the field.
Membership of WAVE is therefore a natural next step in Gaia’s continued work to strengthen our professional expertise, develop our practice and keep violence against women and children on the agenda – both in Denmark and in a broader European context.
